Guided tour in the tsunami affected area of Vathi (Sunday, September 28, 18:00-19:30, free of cost)

The guided tour (around 3km) aims at seeing in-situ signs of the impacts of the earthquake and tsunami of 2020 and better understanding the protection measures in place. The tour will be guided by local volunteers and first responders and will start from the main Conference Venue and will and at the Museum of Samos Wine for the welcome Cocktail.

Exploring Samos – Tour #1 (Monday, September 29, from 9:00 to 16:00, 50 euros*)

Visit to significant archeological sites, and a glimpse of villages and traditions of Samos.

Participants will first have a guided visit to Heraion of Samos, a large sanctuary to the goddess Hera and to the Archaeological Museum of Pythagoreion. The ruins of the temple of Hera, along with the nearby archeological site of Pythagoreion, were designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1992.

The tour will continue towards the village of Koumaradei. The village is well-known for its pottery, traditional textiles, aromatic plants and herbs, and olive oil. In the village, participants will have the opportunity to visit a pottery workshop and experience the Greek pottery technique, and to shop local products. The tour will end with lunch in a small restaurant at the square of the largest village of Samos (Mytilinii).

Exploring Samos – Tour #2 (Tuesday, September 30, 9:00-14:00, 50 euros*)

Easy hiking in the amazing countryside of Samos.

Visitors will experience an easy hiking route of about 3,4km in the beautiful countryside of Samos, towards an area full of water and waterfalls and rich in fauna and flora. The tour will continue towards the village Ampelos is in the mountainous north of Samos, on the slopes of Mountain Ambelos. 

The hiking will end with lunch at a tavern in the village square.

Participants should ideally wear hiking boots or at least sports shoes, long pants and hat, and should carry a backpack with water, some snack, and the necessary medications if they have allergies or other health vulnerabilities.

The tour will be guided by members of the Trekking Association of Samos who are trained in first aid.

Exploring Samos – Tour #3 (Wednesday, October 2nd, 9:00-17:00, 60 euros*)

A journey along the east coast of Samos on a traditional “caique” boat.

The “caique” navigates passengers through the serene Mykali Strait to witness the beautiful coastlines of both Samos and Turkey. The first stop is at the picturesque Posidonio, for a refreshing morning swim in crystal-clear waters. The tour continues along the charming Kasonisi island. The destination is the quiet Megali Lakka beach. Lunch will be offered on the boat.

The excursion offers a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, mesmerizing sea views and local culture, creating unforgettable memories.
