Samos town, also known as Vathi, is located on the north-northeast side of the island. It is amphitheatrically built around the Port of Vathi, one of the largest and safest natural ports of Greece.

Besides its rich history, Vathi is a scenic port town. It blends neoclassical architecture, traditional buildings, charming streets, and historical sites, offering a unique fusion of ancient heritage and contemporary culture. Its neoclassical buildings and small tiled roofed houses keep the traditional architectural style alive. The picturesque cobblestone -paved streets and ladder streets, unchanged over the centuries, invite the visitor to explore the town. The neoclassical mansions on the coastal road and around the central Pythagoras Square with the marble lion are charming. Parallel to the coastal road, runs a pedestrian shopping street with various shops.

Among the attractions of Samos town are the Archaeological Museum of Samos with the colossal marble kouros (4.80 m. of height), the Town Hall and the Municipal Gallery where the Parliament of the Samians was housed during the Hegemony, the Cathedral of Agios Spyridon, the Historical Archive of Samos, the Ecclesiastical Byzantine Museum of the Holy Metropolis of Samos and the Metropolitan Library with rare manuscripts on membranes, icons, golden thread embroidery as well as gold and silversmithing artefacts.
